t the E-Learning Expo held in early March, different ways of using new technology in training were presented.
There are three major issues to think about:
- Industrial tools or software that can manage classrooms, online and virtual classrooms, as well as their assessment (Learning Management Systems). Also, tools that create e-learning content, integrating already existing documents (Content Management System). Demos is lucky to have MOS (Mind On Site), a tool which is able to work as a Learning Management System as well as a Content Management System, and has been listed by TrainingIndustry.com as one of "2010 Top 20 Learning Portals".
- “Off the shelf” products, products that can be sold as is, are attracting a lot of interest.
We now have more than a hundred of these modules, covering a range of professional subject matter, including anything from yearly appraisals to how to make appointments.
- Tailor made training, in particular Serious Games, are also popular. Learners are put in situations where they are forced to learn how to make decisions and immediately evaluate the consequences.
Simultrain, designed by our subsidiary STS, is a tool used for working on project management with a virtual team.
Integrating these tools into the learning process is now possible. We talk about blended learning and social learning: the first consists of mixing face to face training and the use of distance learning tools, and the second is used as a complement to the first, in order to build on the relationships of shared learning.
Social learning has been made possible by web 2.0 technologies, such as with our MOS platform. It reinvents companionship by sharing best practices among a community of learners. It also facilitates access to knowledge through wikis, and makes synchronous or asynchronous online tutoring possible.
Michael Diaz, associate director of Fefaur who was responsible for conferences at the E-Learning Expo said Social learning is "a coherent and peaceful coexistence between formal training and informal learning."
An accumulation of all e-learning practices, social learning is slowly being set up in businesses; it is a combination of internal communication, knowledge management and learning. This tool can help with integration, recognition and motivation.
With the help of sharing, knowledge can be put to use.
